The Rundown: What will Robotman do when a fan of the Doom Patrol comics holds the key to stopping a familiar threat?
Doom Patrol comic book super fan Clark has made the team’s adventures a part of life and even uses them to make decisions about life. When a resurrected Dorothy appears and brings Clark into Danny Land, the fan is beyond excited to find and share an adventure with Robotman.
At the same time, Danny alerts Cliff to the breach and invasion. Going off to find the intruders, Cliff has to find the proverbial needle in a haystack. When Clark gets suspicious about Dorothy’s appearance in this new iteration of the comics, the fan makes a decision about what to do next. A decision that will lead to a dangerous clash with an old enemy.
The Story: There is a lot of well done and fun fourth wall breaking action in this issue and it’s a great side story that doesn’t take away from the main story being told, but enhances the unique and innovative tone the storytelling is taking in this series. Cloonan and Conrad tell a fun, inventive story that engages as well as entertains. I really enjoyed this issue for the direction it takes as well as giving the reader a little history on the twists and turns these characters have taken in the comics.
The Art: Becky Cloonan’s art perfectly captures the fun, funny and irreverent nature of this issue and its story.
