IN December 2020, Disney announced that a Star Wars series centered on Donald Glover’s adventures as Lando Calrissian would be getting the green light and now it looks like the series is taking the next step.
With Ahsoka and The Acolyte coming soon to Disney Plus, it’s been reported that Donald Glover and his brother Stephen Glover has begun writing the upcoming Lando series for the streaming service. The deal was apparently made prior to the writer’s strike and after Haunted Mansion director Justin Simien was attached to develop the project and left.
There’s no information about when the series will begin production with both the writer’s and actors currently on strike. Glover got a lot of positive feedback for his portrayal of the dashing smuggler in Solo: A Star Wars and there were many people (myself included) that speculated that a film centering on the adventures of a young Lando would have been more appealing. Personally, as a fan of Donald Glover and the inventive writing of his series Atlanta, I’m excited about the prospect of a Lando series. I’ll be even more excited when the actors and writers who are brought in to bring it to life are compensated fairly for the work they produce.
