The players have returned. The spell keeping them silent is gone and now the real game can begin.
Sol has brought his friends back from the real world to the world of Die and he wants to continue the game. He’s killed the previous grandmaster and taken his place. Now he wants his friends to stay and play, forever.
Ash can tell that his friend has lost it and even as the others plead with him with stories about their lives, jobs and kids, Sol is only interested in continuing the game. He’s recreated everything they remember and when he disappears, the group must decide how they are going to proceed.
The start of a new quest is going to bring these former friends face to face with the rules of a world they thought they forgot and after they decide how they are going to proceed, Ash is confronted by a ghost from his past. A ghost that reminds them that their past time in this world might be more dangerous than taking a road not traveled.
Now that the preliminaries are over, they real game begins. There are some truly remarkable moments in this issue. I love how these characters are so desperate to leave and that there is a real obstacle against that beyond the game itself. Gillen has crafted an intriguing tale that is compelling, engaging and only just beginning.
The art by Stephanie Hans really captures the tone of this story. It conveys some beautiful details in both the characters and the world they are navigating. Every page is stunning. Cannot wait to see where this quest goes next.
