The Rundown: Ash confronts her darkest fears as the party gets closer to their goal.
As Ash and company make their way to the center of DIE, they find themselves facing a foe that they never could have imagined and one Ash knows all too well. A malevolent entity composed of Ash’s dark self stands in their way and offers her a deal to let them pass. One that will bring her evil into the real world. When Matt tries to fight back, the party learns the dark cost of her power.
When Ash decides to make the ultimate sacrifice to save her friends, the rest of the group is left reeling. Things only get darker when another member of the party is called on to do something unthinkable for the sake of the mission. As they make their way to their goal, they will discover that the power at the heart of DIE is waiting for them and wants answers.
The Story: Gillen crafts a brilliant story in this issue. Not only is it filled with great world building and depth, but it has a great personal story for Ash. Having the character confront not only her darkness, but her personal pain is a great dramatic moment and the fact that Sol created this moment for the character is fantastic writing that brilliantly showcases the character relationships. The story is filled with deep character moments and great action. I cannot wait to see where it goes next.
The Art: Stephanie Hans delivers some fantastic visuals throughout this issue. Hans perfectly captures the emotion of a moment visually and creates some thrilling and scary images throughout.
