The Rundown: Three generations of a family struggle with weight until a miracle arrives that has a deadly and dangerous catch.
A woman struggling with her weight finds a new diet store opened on Hyde Street. A store that has something special for her from the store’s proprietor Miss Goodbody. Something that she will take home and will eventually become a part of her life.
In the present, Lily struggles with the same thing her grandmother did and her mother is hesitant as Lily does everything she can to lose weight before her wedding. When her grandmother insists, her mother relents and they decide that Lily needs the miracle that worked for them. A miracle with a dark side that can destroy everything Lily is.
The Story: Zchut makes an entertaining and compelling return to Hyde Street with a timely and engaging story. I really enjoyed the slow burn of this story as well as the darkness brimming beneath the surface. There is also a wonderfully balanced sense of tragedy to these characters and their circumstances. A thoroughly entertaining and dark fantasy that makes me excited to see more from this world.
The Art: Leiz delivers some beautifully detailed and visually dynamic art throughout the issue. I love the visual style and how brilliantly the horror and suspense are depicted in the story.
