The Rundown: Deathstroke and Canary search for a formidable enemy lead to a disturbing revelation.
The story opens with a montage of scenes from Deathstroke’s past. In the present, a T.R.U.S.T. agent infiltrates an unusual town. After a conversation with headquarters, Deathstroke shows up in the town to reek havoc. Black Canary then uses her abilities to end the confrontation and a terrifying discovery is made. Afterwards, Black Canary and Deathstroke search for someone unusual. Once they find their target, an altercation starts and the duo must work together to complete their mission. As they await backup Canary and Deathstroke discuss their current situation. Elsewhere, high ranking members of T.R.U.S.T. discuss their future plans.
The Story: Williamson’s first entry into this series is both compelling and filled with adventure. The addition of Canary in the storyline is fascinating. I like that this appears to be a tale where heroes and villains join forces. I find promise in the idea of a Canary/Deathstroke team up and I can’t wait to see how this plotline will unfold.
The Art: Porter and Hi-Fi have crafted a visually interesting issue that is filled with exciting and disturbing action sequences. Detailed character form and expression contributes to the horrifying vision of the H.I.V.E. members and help to increase the emotional engagement of the reader. Overall, I found this edition to be stylistically pleasing and transportive.
