Despite the announcement that Disney is going to be purchasing a huge portion of 21st Century Fox’s assets including the X-Men franchise, Fox is still in active development on films in the X-Men universe.
According to Collider, sources have told them that a Kitty Pryde solo film is currently in development with the studio and that Deadpool director Tim Miller is both developing the film with the studio and could possibly direct the film.
Kitty Pryde was introduced in the comics in the 1980’s and has gone on to be one of the most dynamic characters and effective leaders in the X-Men canon. In the films, she has been largely regulated to the background, despite the performance of Ellen Page. Her biggest role in the X-universe to date was in X-Men: Days of Future Past. Katherine “Kitty” Pryde has the ability to phase through objects and people. She can use the ability to levitate, but also avoid damage and disrupt electrical fields.
No other information has been given other than the development status and who is involved, which could all change when the final Disney/Fox deal is completed. But, we could see the film sooner rather than later considering the deal might take more than a year to be finalized.
