At the start of what should have been a routine mission for the Justice League, Darkseid is defeated after his latest invasion attempt.
As they force the ruler of Apokalips to his knees, he leaves in a boom tube with an ominous message that he already got what he came for.
Batman is the first to know what Darkseid was talking about. He wasn’t trying to conquer the planet. He was using the invasion as a smoke screen to isolate and kidnap Cyborg. He takes the hero to Desaad because he has the other half of the Anti-Life Equation. Unfortunately for Darkseid, he and his people miscalculated and the despot is exposed to something far worse.
As Desaad sends Vic back to Earth, he finds that he is too late to save Apokalips. When Vic arrives, he discovers that the infection that ultimately destroyed Darkseid has been unleashed by him through social media and the internet. The destruction is quick and Superman gets home just in time to stop it from taking his family and Damian. Batman shuts down the web in the cave, but his protocol is too late to shut down in the house and he tells Alfred to run as he is attacked by two of his own.
This was a really well done debut issue for a new story for these characters. Tom Taylor knows these characters and their reactions really well and translates that to the moments of intensity throughout this issue. The story had a good mixture of intensity and humor as well. My favorite moments in the issue are in Wayne Manor and the Batcave with Bruce cutting off the mansion from the web.
Trevor Hairsine, James Harren and Stefano Gaudiano do amazing work with the art in this issue.
