Aquaman director James Wan and Warner Brothers are gearing up to begin production on the DC Universe live-action series based on Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson’s Swamp Thing and today it was announced who will play the title creature.
According to Deadline, Andy Bean will take on the role of biologist Alec Holland. Holland discovers that his work in the Louisiana swamps might be responsible for the unexplained horrors emerging from it and his subsequent investigation into those swamps puts him in the crosshairs of forces that will do anything to shut him up. Bean is known for his role on the series Power as well as the series Here and Now. He will next be seen as adult Stan Uris in IT: Chapter 2 from Warner Brothers.
Derek Mears has been cast as Swamp Thing. After Holland (Bean) is transformed into Swamp Thing, he will have to find a way to live with the creature he has become in order to defend his home and the world while struggling to hold onto his humanity. Mears is known for playing Jason Voorhees in the 2009 reboot of the Friday the 13th franchise as well as Sleepy Hollow and Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD. Mears can next be seen in the upcoming live-action adaptation of Alita: Battle Angel.
Bean and Mears will join Crystal Reed, Maria Sten, Jeryl Prescott, Jennifer Beals, Virginia Madsen and Will Patton in the series. Swamp Thing is expected to premiere on DC Universe in 2019.
