Another horror franchise is returning to the big screen with a reboot as writer/producer David S Goyer is set to take on a Clive Barker classic.
According to Deadline, Goyer and Spyglass Media Group have announced their first project. Goyer will write and produce a re-imagining of Clive Barker’s 1987 horror classic Hellraiser.
Based on Barker’s novella The Hellbound Heart, ‘Hellraiser’ has been a popular and enduring fixture of the horror genre for decades. Goyer said to Deadline; “I’ve been a fan of Clive’s work since the original Books of Blood paperbacks and The Hellbound Heart novella. Having the chance to reimagine Pinhead and the Cenobites for a new audience is a nightmare-come-true. Gary (Spyglass Chairman Gary Barber) is a true fan as well and we’re committed to making something dark and visceral.”
Goyer does have an impressive list of screenwriting accomplishments that include Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy of films as well as the original Blade film. He recently co-wrote the screenplay for the upcoming Terminator: Dark Fate.
Pinhead and company have always been a unique part of the horror genre, transcending the constraints of modern horror storytelling. Let me know what you think of David S Goyer taking on a character as iconic as Pinhead in the comments below.
