My favorite comic book character has always been Green Lantern. I’ve always admired the story of a hero being chosen because of his or her ability to overcome fear and given great power where the only limit is the imagination of the user. Which is why Batman the Dawnbreaker is such an interesting villain to me.
Batman The Dawnbreaker is set to debut with the rest of the denizens of the Dark Multiverse in Metal, but he will also receive a one shot issue this October. It begins with an all too familiar story with a new twist. A young Bruce Wayne is walking through Crime Alley with his parents when they are confronted with a mugger who kills both of Bruce’s parents. As the grieving Bruce is in the alley filled with sadness and rage, young Bruce is presented with a Green Lantern ring because of his ability to overcome fear.
Taking the ring and putting it on, Bruce seeks out the mugger who killed his parents and, in his grief and rage, unleashes the power of the ring on the man, killing him. The slippery slope to becoming a villain himself begins in that moment and powered by a Green Lantern ring and the calculating mind of Bruce Wayne, what nightmares could this Bruce imagine for the world?
