The Rundown: The heroes head to New Apokolips to liberate their friends and put Diana’s plan into action.
After making their way to New Apokolips, the heroes decide to leave a calling card behind for the Dark Knights sent to investigate their crashed ship.
After fighting their way through the city, they make their way to a specially designed torture chamber where another Dark Batman holds Superman hostage in a machine that will destroy him if he tries to escape. Bruce will surprise everyone with a desperate gambit to free the Man of Steel while the heroes waiting back on Earth get a visit from the Robin King and the new form of the Batman Who Laughs.
The Story: There are a lot of great moments throughout this issue. From the introduction of Darkseid Batman to the liberation of the heroes, Scott Snyder gives fans some awesome moments to enjoy. What is unfortunate is that with all the moments featured in this issue, there isn’t much story to be had. The liberation of both Superman and the other heroes didn’t have the level of tension and stakes that I’m used to from this storyline. The Robin King story needed to be expanded more and the Lobo moments were great. I just wish those side stories were tied to a main story with some emotional impact.
The Art: Greg Capullo delivers some visually stunning panels throughout this issue. Capullo composes some great scenes and the details in the characters is amazing. The page featuring the liberation of the other heroes looks awesome and the whole tone of the art in this issue is more hopeful and bright.
