Two more actors have joined the big screen adaptation of the hit Broadway musical Dear Evan Hansen.
According to Deadline, actors Danny Pino and Amy Adams have joined the cast of the musical ensemble. The pair will join Ben Platt, who originated the title role on Broadway, Booksmart’s Kaitlyn Dever and The Hate You Give’s Amandla Stenberg in the story of high school student Evan Hansen who suffers from Social Anxiety. He becomes embroiled in a lie after the brother of the girl he likes commits suicide and the boy’s parents believe that the note written by Hansen indicates that the two were friends.
Danny Pino will play the step-father to Connor Murphy, the student who commits suicide. Pino is known for his roles in the FX series Mayans as well as The Burning Plain.
Amy Adams will play Cynthia Murphy, Connor’s mother in the film adaptation. Adams is known for her roles in Arrival, Sharp Objects, Man of Steel and more.
The screenplay for Dear Evan Hansen was written by Steven Levenson, who wrote the book for the musical. Benj Pasek and Justin Paul wrote the music and lyrics for the Broadway musical as well as the music and lyrics for La La Land and The Greatest Showman. Stephen Chbosky (The Perks of Being A Wallflower) will direct the film for Universal Pictures.
