The Rundown: Survivors of an ecological disaster find living beneath the sea to be just as dangerous.

Science Officer Liana Pearson of the research submarine Absolution is celebrating her birthday when the ship receives a distress call from a British sub. After an ecological disaster wipes out life on the surface, the crew of the Absolution has been underwater for years collecting and scavenging what they can. As they look for the sub, Liana finds herself dealing with the captain, his brother and their contentious relationship.

After sending out a drone to check the ship, they discover what happened to the crew of the other ship as well as a dangerous creature lurking at the bottom of the sea that indicates there might be life on the surface. As they leave the area, they are blind to a bigger threat that could have come aboard.

The Story: Andry and Daniel craft an entertaining first issue with interesting characters and relationship dynamics. I like that the story is told from Liana’s point of view and that it begins with her final log as she fights for her life in the depths of the ship. There is a wonderfully dark and ominous feel to the story and it gives me the same vibes as classic sci-fi monster movies. Everything in this issue great setup for dark things to come and I am all in to see what those things are.

The Art: Sanchez delivers some beautifully detailed and powerful art throughout the issue. The first shot is brilliantly claustrophobic and I love how it establishes the tone of the story.
