The Rundown: Caduceus Clay deals with loss on multiple levels before beginning a new journey.

Caduceus Clay lives an idyllic life with his family in the Blooming Glove with loving parents who teach him the value of life and the inevitability of death. With corruption attacking the grove, his family members leave to find an answer leaving him alone with his sister who wants to go on an adventure herself.

Before his father leaves, Caduceus and his sister Clarabelle are tasked with giving the final internment rights to a very talkative body who Caduceus must take on a dangerous journey through the woods to complete the burial rights. A dangerous journey that will reveal the corruption of his home and lead to him being prepared to take on a new mission.

The Story: Wells and the others craft a wonderfully intriguing and entertaining story in this issue. Not only does the story craft a wonderful back story for Caduceus, but it also showcases the family that formed him and the relationships that shape his compassion for others and appreciation of life. I love seeing him have a mini journey of discovery and how the experiences in that journey shape and change him into the character I’ve grown to love. A brilliantly compelling and immersive adventure.

The Art: Espiritu delivers some beautifully detailed and visually immersive art throughout the issue. Every page and panel drew me into the character’s world and I felt a part of Caduceus’ journey and how the beauty of his home is worth saving.
