The Rundown: The team finds the killer of empathy and learns a devastating truth.
The team is confroted by the killer of empathy. A killer who not only admits his crime, but wants all of them to know why and how he did it. After confronting him, the team is ambushed by agents of the Extinction Society and their leader Executrix. The team leaps into battle as the clock is ticking on the spell keeping empathy alive in the world and the Commanders get the upper hand just in time for Excutrix to reveal herself and the revelation will change everything about the team.
More reveals follow as the leader of the Extinction Society forces Nina to reveal to the team something that she has been keeping from them since they arrived on the planet. Something that changes the nature of their team, their mission and the nature of their presence on the planet. At the same time, the tide they were working to push back asserts itself with more force and the world might not come back from it.
The Story: Steve Orlando not only crafts a great story in this issue, but also serves up one hell of a curveball to the reader with the reveals. While the murder mystery was a compelling way into the story, Orlando expands the story in ways that got my attention both in regards to the characters and the world he’s created. There are great character moments to be had and enough drama between the team and the villains to keep me interested in seeing what happens next.
The Art: Tinto delivers some beautifully detailed visuals throughout this issue. The art is great and I really love the style of the characters and the energy in the action.
