The Rundown: Jake’s investigation will dig up some old ghosts and make new ones in the process.
A madman with a gun takes a group of people hostage in a bank with the police swarming outside. When the city’s hero emerges and puts him down, the police are grateful while his enemy hints that he knows more about the mysterious Sentinel than he thinks. In the present, Jake finds himself in an interrogation room after the Sentinel’s former sidekick winds up dead. In the aftermath, Jake leaves to keep an appointment for his next interview.
He learns from a former reporter who covered the vigilante that there was something wrong with the entire story from the beginning and having the police connected with him made things even more difficult. Her digging into the story almost gets her killed, but it also leaves her with more questions. Questions Jake finds himself wanting to hear. Questions that will send Jake looking to speak to a lunatic.
The Story: Richardson continues to craft an engaging and wonderfully told noir mystery in this issue. I like not knowing which direction the story is going to take and the surprises continue to be intriguing. I like the familiarity of the story, but also how dense and different it is. I look forward to every twist and turn this story takes and cannot wait to see how it evolves.
The Art: Armengol delivers the perfect amount of noir reality to the visuals in this issue. The characters look great and the action is visually thrilling.
