The Rundown: Checkmate travels to the Hall of Justice while Lois Lane and Leo flee Leviathan.
After being transported half way around the world, the members of Checkmate find themselves in a precarious situation. After a confrontation, the team arrive at the Hall of Justice where they discover a Markovian infiltrator. Damian Wayne is then sent to gather information on Checkmate’s latest foe, while Manhunter makes a startling request. Soon, Leviathan makes a move on the Hall.
Five minutes ago, Lois Lane and Leo have a confrontation with Leviathan. Afterwards, Leo drives them to an unusual location and gives Lois some critical information. Finally, the two are met by someone unexpected.
The Story: Bendis continues his compelling detective mystery in the penultimate episode of this series. I like the character interactions. And I am interested in the history of Leo. I wish this series had a longer run, as I would love to learn more about the new characters that have been introduced. Also, I would be remiss if I didn’t point out the misleading cover regarding The Daemon Rose. The character is not clearly pointed out, and they are never mentioned by title. Overall, I enjoyed this chapter and can’t wait for the finale.
The Art: The artwork in this issue is traditional. It features color work that changes with the location and tone of the story. I found the illustrations engaging and perfectly fitting for the storyline.
