CBS is developing a new series based on characters from Thomas Harris’ Silence of the Lambs.
The series is titled “Clarice” and will feature FBI Agent Clarice Starling, the main character from the novel, as she returns to the field in 1993. The series takes place six months after the events of Silence of the Lambs and serial killer Hannibal Lecter is on the run. There is no word on whether Lecter will appear in the series.
Rebecca Breeds has been cast as the lead in the series. Breeds is known for her roles in series like Pretty Little Liars, The Code and The Originals.
Silence of the Lambs was originally published in 1988 and the feature film adaptation was released in 1991. The film version starred Jodie Foster as Clarice Starling and Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter. Directed by Jonathan Demme, the film went on to win five Academy Awards including Best Actor (Hopkins), Best Actress (Foster), Best Director and Best Picture.
This isn’t the first time Thomas Harris’ characters have been adapted for television. The character of Hannibal Lecter received his own series “Hannibal” which ran on NBC from 2013-2015.
