Deron GenerallyA new adaptation of Stephen King’s classic novel The Stand has been in the works for years. Now there’s news that will please the authors eager fans and readers.
According to Deadline and other sources, CBS All Access has ordered a ten episode adaptation of Stephen King’s The Stand. The limited series adaptation will be spearheaded by Josh Boone and Ben Cavell with CBS Television Studios. Boone and Cavell wrote the adaptation of the 1978 novel which Boone will direct for the streaming service.
King released a statement saying; “I’m excited and so very pleased that The Stand is going to have a new life on this exciting new platform,” he said. “The people involved are men and women who know exactly what they’re doing; the scripts are dynamite. The result bids to be something memorable and thrilling. I believe it will take viewers away to a world they hope will never happen.”
The Stand tells the story of a group of survivors of a plague that wipes out 99% of the world’s population. The survivors break off into two groups. One led by the mystical Mother Abagail and the other ruled by the Dark powers of Randall Flagg. Both groups prepare for a final conflict as a handful of survivors must make a final stand.
The Stand was previously adapted as a television miniseries in 1994 and holds a special place in the heart of Boone. He shares a personal story of his connection to the material and the writer himself which you can read in the original Deadline article.
Josh Boone is currently in post-production on the X-Men spinoff film New Mutants slated for release this August.
