The Rundown: Carol will discover what is affecting her powers, but who did it will become a bigger mystery.
Carol’s professional life continues to take a beating as she steps down from Alpha Flight after being dismissed from the Air Force. Fortunately, Rhodey is there to take her mind off her troubles and help her investigate the reason Minerva came to her to offer help. Their investigation will take them to the sewers beneath the city to discover another creature like the one Carol took on earlier.
With a trap laid out for her and her powers continuing to fade, Carol is at the mercy of the creature until Star shows up to help. At the same time, Tony and Jessica are working on what is happening to Carol and discover what could be the cause of Carol’s problems.
The Story: Kelly Thompson is putting Carol through her paces in this issue. Teaming her with Rhodey as both a distraction from her current personal issues and as a partner in her investigation was a nice touch. I like seeing their relationship dynamic and how they play off each other. The dialogue is great and Carol’s interpersonal relationships with people like Jessica and Tony are fun to read. The story gets to the heart of the conspiracy against Carol and her motivation to find answers draws in the reader. I really enjoyed how the issue ended with a cliffhanger that left more questions than answers.
The Art: Carmen Carnero’s art is magnificent. I love the way the characters look and the action is amazing. There are so many brilliant details in the art and backgrounds that draw your eye. Great looking issue.
