The Rundown: Carol Danvers is missing and her friends decide to teach Binary how to be a hero.
Captain Marvel is off planet and no one knows where she is. Her creation Binary has been taken in by Jessica Drew who decides to take over teaching her how to be a hero as well as a person. Something that has its own set of challenges and rewards for the new being.
On an unknown world, Carol finds herself living alone. When she is visited by a friend from a nearby village, she suits up to track down and defeat a dangerous creature that is attacking the innocent. Unfortunately, her peaceful life gets interrupted by the return of some familiar faces.
The Story: Thompson crafts a wonderful story of discovery in this issue. I love seeing Binary interact with the world and slowly discover who and what she might want to be. The plot has some great character interactions and dialogue among Binary and Carol’s friends. The other part of the story has great pacing, tension and intensity. I also love the cliffhanger that it ends on.
The Art: Both Frigeri and Lopez bring wonderful style to the art in the issue. I love the contrast in the art style and how well they complement each other and the characters themselves.
