The Rundown: Carol’s best laid plans are derailed by a trip to a dangerous future.
Carol is in a rare good mood and she and Rhodey are making plans for a vacation, but their current mission comes first. Teaming up with War Machine, Hazmat and Spider-Woman, Carol finds herself in the woods of upstate New York checking out a downed spacecraft. When a mysterious force attacks, Carol awakens to find herself transported to a devastated future landscape.
After being confronted by the heroes of that era, she finds herself face to face with Emma Frost as they battle creatures that came from out of nowhere. After defeating them, she is taken to a base where other survivors live and told of the world she finds herself in by an old friend. With no idea how she got there and how she’ll get back, Carol confronts Emma with the fact that the creature they are fighting seem familiar.
The Story: Kelly Thompson begins a new arc for Carol with a story that is interesting and tragic. I really enjoyed the stakes as well as Carol’s reaction to the new faces she’s confronted with, especially Rhodey’s adult daughter. The dialogue is great and the plot is engaging. I am invested in what happened and how Carol will overcome it.
The Art: Lee Garbett delivers some impressive art both in the character moments and in the action. The tone of the art complements the tone of the story really well and there is some great imagery throughout.
