The Rundown: Sin unlocks a deadly power while Steve realizes he can’t take on the Lukins alone.
After his defeat at the hands of Sin and her forces, Steve reaches out to Nick Fury for help. While Sin has her powers unlocked for the next part of the Power Elite’s plans, Cap grapples with questions of whether his crusade to stop them is about safety or his own personal vendetta. Steve reflects on the situation and then explains to Fury and Ross about how everything the Lukins have been doing is connected in ways that make it everyone’s problem.
Steve has a plan to stop them, but he runs into resistance from those he’s trying to enlist. Resistance that challenges his moral code in light of what the Lukins are actively doing to the country. With a plan in place, the duty of bringing in the Lukins falls to Captain America and the Daughters of Liberty. A plan that will require them to split up as Cap faces off against Alexksander Lukin alone.
The Story: Coates delivers all the best elements of a political thriller and action movie in this issue. Taking on Steve’s moral objections and giving counter points that make sense are a great way to evolve the drama and make the issue engaging to the reader. The pace of the story is brilliantly done and the finale is fantastic in both ramping up the action, raising its tension and leaving on a cliffhanger that adds a new mystery.
The Art: Kirk does awesome work with the characters and action throughout this issue. The character moments work visually and the action is spectacular.
