The Rundown: Toba learns the truth about Buckhead but trying to stop what’s coming might be harder than he imagined.
Toba wakes up surrounded by his classmates and the mystery young woman whose lawn he hopped into when he first arrived. A young woman who knows what’s going on in the town of Buckhead and has a story to tell. She tells him the story of what happened when her parents were attacked by the androids that stalk the town. She also reveals that she knows that the adults in town all go to the school at night where they seem to be controlled by something within it.
After telling them what the plan is to stop the androids and the signal they are sending out, Toba reveals that Darsha doesn’t have the whole story. After learning about the bigger problem they face, they proceed to create a device Toba’s mother was going to use to save his father. Unfortunately, they have only one device and both Darsha and Toba’s missions could put the entire group at risk.
The Story: Shobo delivers a great, intense story in this issue. There are some great world building moments that are compelling to discover, and I found myself engaged with all the characters and what they are facing. I enjoyed the dialogue throughout the issue and was impressed with the scope of the story and the world Shobo is building. I cannot wait to see where this story goes next.
The Art: Kambadais offers some beautiful art in this issue. The style perfectly captures the youthful energy of its characters as well as the world being created in the series.
