The Rundown: Toba will discover the truth about his father as his world begins to fall apart.

After discovering that something is being done to one of his new friends and that his mother might be involved, Toba runs back home. After being unable to locate his mother, he decides to hide as dark beings seem to surround the area. The next morning, after an intense dream about his father, Toba is awoken by his friend who has no memory of anything that happened the night before.

After returning to school, Toba has more questions as he discovers clues about the mysterious men in black he thought he saw as well as someone purposely closing off the storage room he and is friend discovered as well as the machine inside. Toba also discovers the research his parents were working on and what happened to his father in Africa. A discovery that will put him in mortal danger.

The Story: Shobo crafts an intense and entertaining story in this issue. Toba has become a more interesting and dynamic character. The mystery within the town continues to be compelling. Toba’s complicated relationship with his mother and what their presence in the town signals also becomes increasingly interesting as the issue progresses. I am invested in both the story and characters and cannot wait to see where the story goes next.

The Art: Kambadais delivers some great visuals throughout the issue. There are some awesome action beats to be found and the panels have an intensity that deftly matches the dark tone of the story.
