The Rundown: A mysterious government agent goes on a deadly mission, while a scientist studies his overpowered capabilities.
An unnamed man, known only as Berzerker, is recruited for a team assignment involving a government figure from a foreign nation. He and the team engage in a dangerous, high energy confrontation. Simultaneously, the reader learns of Berzerker’s ultimate goals through a series of narration between himself and a mysterious scientist. After his mission, he has a debriefing which reveals part of his stunning history.
The Story: Matt Kindt & Keanu Reeves have created an impressive, action packed story. It felt like watching a big budget action movie, only more intense. Using narration for most of the story upped my anticipation for more. I was so enthralled, the graphic violence at times made me shout. I’m looking forward to reading more of this series.
The Art: Ron Garney does a masterful job creating detailed, tight drawings depicting both action and gore. Bill Crabtree layers these panels using red and blue tones that create a washed out newspaper effect that is reminiscent of old school comics. While light on words, this issue uses the art to convey the story line. And it absolutely works!
