The Rundown: Briar wages an internal fight as her friends fight to save her body.
An unconscious Briar is being taken away by agents of her fairy godmother while Roop and Spider attempt to stop them. At the same time, the dams are blown, flooding the area and giving the group the opportunity to escape back to the city. Unfortunately, Roop is unable to wake the dead hero and the godmother’s forces arrive.
With one of the party injured and the others fighting a hopeless battle, an unexpected occurrence will give them a fighting chance and a new hero to fight along with them. A hero who will accompany Briar as she confronts the person who put her to sleep in the first place.
The Story: Cantwell ramps up the action and thrills in this issue while also giving Briar a fantastic character arc that evolves her, her story and her agency within it. I love the internal fight she has with her godmother as her friends fight to save her. There are some great reveals in the issue and I love how the story builds to an ending that has me excited to see what happens next.
The Art: Garcia delivers some fantastic visuals throughout the issue. The action is thrilling throughout and I love how brilliantly the art evokes and amplifies the emotion of a scene.
