The Rundown: Briar Rose looks for safety in a dangerous world as she continues to be hunted.
The dark entity that is responsible for what happened to Briar Rose has dispatched her forces to find her and end her once and for all. At the same time, Briar and her new friend Spider make their way to the Burbly Marshes. A location connected to one of her fairy godmothers and where the final followers of the faerie reside. After learning more about what she is and what she will become, Briar decides to stay and wait for the end of the world until Spider shows her the truth of what staying will mean.
At the same time, Deadcrawl and his forces continue to track Briar’s whereabouts and pass harsh judgment on anyone who came in contact with her. With danger getting closer, Spider and Briar discover the cost of her staying with the witches and they decide it is too high to pay.
The Story: An intense, entertaining and thrilling issue from Cantwell. I continue to be impressed with the world building of this series and this issue has some great character moments and growth for Briar Rose. I also enjoyed how the stakes are being raised as well as the revelations made in the plot. It will be interesting to see where the story goes from here.
The Art: Garcia crafts some beautifully detailed art throughout the issue. There are some great visual moments with the characters as well as great looks at the world they inhabit.
