The Rundown: A group of young people gather to stop an external threat that’s taken people they love.
A group of high school students find themselves dealing with an extraordinary situation that has become disturbingly ordinary as hundreds of unknown cube-like vessels hover over the Earth and take young people seemingly randomly. Liam recounts what happened when the cubes arrives, how resistance from the military was useless and how the adults stopped fighting back, especially when one of the cubes took his brother.
When the young people discover that their classmates, friends and family might still be alive, Liam decides to gather a group of people he can trust to come up with a bold plan. One that will hopefully give them the opportunity to help those they’ve lost, but will also put this group of teenagers in a level of danger they cannot imagine.
The Story: Kaplan crafts a brilliantly engaging first issue with great characters and conflict. The story has a great narrative flow and a compelling premise that not connects with the reader, but establishes a mystery that I want to explore. The character relationships are interesting and Liam’s journey definitely connects with me as a reader and prompts me to read on.
The Art: Santos delivers some fantastic art in the issue. The story is character driven and Santos delivers on that visually with moments of great emotion.
