The Rundown: Blue Beetle and Booster Gold continue to build their brand.
Blue Beetle explains Booster Gold’s current predicament. He then saves his friend in a daring rescue. The two then discuss the affects of social media. The two then converse while recovering tech. Soon, they have a live-streamed confrontation with their foes. Afterwards they make an important business decision. Unfortunately, Blue Beetle receives some devastating news that threatens to destroy Booster’s master plan before its even begun. Meanwhile, someone mysterious moves to New York.
The Story: This story is so much fun. Jurgens does an amazing job at blending humor and action. I like that this story explores the need for heroes to make a living. And incorporating social media to fulfill that need is both brilliant and timely. I also appreciate their frank commentary on the other heroes. This has become one of my favorite new series and I can’t wait to read about more of Blue and Gold’s adventures.
The Art: Sook has created a good looking issue filled with bold colors and fun action scenes. The focus on character expression is engaging and emotionally connective. I felt the illustrations perfectly matched the tone of the story.
