The Rundown: Fueled by grief and rage, Black Widow takes the fight to those that took everything from her.
In the aftermath of the explosion that shattered her entire world, Natasha finds herself staring into the flames and thinking about what she’s lost. Yelena and the others have to break her out of her state in order to prepare her for the fight that’s coming. A fight Black Widow does not intend to lose.
With the forces that crafted this nightmare moving in, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Yelena and Winter Soldier get ready for what will be an explosive showdown. Widow confronts a ghost from her past and warns him that they will have a reckoning as she lures the others into a trap of her own design.
The Story: Kelly Thompson brings this arc to a beautifully emotional and satisfying conclusion. Even with the pulse pounding action and dark themes of revenge throughout, Thompson brings heart to the story by bringing the reader into Nat’s pain, grief and hope. What makes the story more compelling is the role of the supporting cast in it and how they interact with her. This is a great conclusion to a consistently great story and Thompson makes me excited to see what comes next for the character with a great tease at the end of the issue.
The Art: Casagrande and De Latorre deliver some stunning art throughout the issue. Some of the best action scenes I’ve seen in comics in a long time are found in the brilliantly detailed splash pages that bring the reader visually into the action.
