The Rundown: Natasha faces a deadly opponent and her doubts could cost her her life.
Natasha finds herself facing off against The Living Blade who tells her that this will be their last encounter. Knowing she is not in the position to beat him, she removes the people around her in order to engage him one on one. Unfortunately, the rest of her team isn’t faring much better with some of them being captured and the status of others being unknown. Yelena catches up Bucky and the two work on a plan to help their captured friends.
After her friends remove the rest of the party guests from the building, Natasha discovers The Host and the Living Blade meeting as well as the extent of the Host’s plan. After freeing a new ally, Black Widow faces the Living Blade again. But is Natasha ready to face off against a foe that very nearly ended her life the last time they fought?
The Story: Thompson takes the reader on a tense thrill ride in this issue. The tension of the action is punctuated by the narration of Natasha. Her inner doubt makes the Living Blade scarier to the reader and that fear is brilliantly brought out in the story. I love how the story progresses as Natasha’s reluctance to engage makes every moment where she’s close to the Living Blade more intense. I cannot wait to see what happens next.
The Art: Casagrande and D’Amico deliver some stellar imagery throughout this issue. The art continues to be a beautiful and brilliantly detailed part of what brings me back to this series.
