The Rundown: Black Widow will find her life taking an unexpected turn from unseen forces with a hidden agenda.
Natasha is gearing up for a new mission. One that requires her unique set of skills. After securing what she needs, she calls on an old friend for help in her escape. Unfortunately, the friend doesn’t stick around afterwards and Widow must come to terms with the part she played in the strain of their relationship.
To make matters worse, she discovers that someone has broken into her place and when she goes to investigate, something happens that will change the course of the super spy’s life. A change that is being watched over by someone with sinister motives.
The Story: Kelly Thompson brings everything you love about the characters of Black Widow to bear in this first issue. From the attitude to the intrigue, there is nothing about this story that isn’t engaging to the reader. I love the mysteries being established, the interpersonal conflicts brimming and the humor. I really enjoyed this first issue a lot and the ending makes me intrigued about where the story goes next.
The Art: Elena Casagrande has some beautiful art in this issue. The characters look great. The world looks big and detailed. There are some great shots throughout and the contrast between Widow’s spy life and its aftermath are brilliantly done.
