The Rundown: T’Challa tracks down his sleeper agents across the world as the assassins hunting them make their next move.
In the wake of losing one of his oldest friends, T’Challa begins to search for other members of his sleeper network of agents in order to pull them from their assignments before they meet the same fate. His plan gets mixed reactions from the agents he is able to contact. In Washington, one of the agents he informs tells him the problem with his plan and how her time in the field has changed her into someone else. Someone who doesn’t want to leave the life she’s made.
Meanwhile, Shuri travels to Chile to help her brother by investigating the scene of his agent’s death. After finding a clue to the identity of the assassins, Shuri must make a hasty retreat. T’Challa’s former agent is attacked in her home and Black Panther suits up to fight the assassin and the former king of Wakanda discovers quickly what lengths the assassin will go to protect his master. In the aftermath, T’Challa will discover that the assassins he tracks seem to be one step ahead of him.
The Story: Ridley does a great job of building and sustaining both the mystery and intrigue of this plot. The story grabs the reader and it is interesting to see the consequences of T’Challa’s decisions come to life as he deals with a range of emotions to his plans instead of the fealty he once enjoyed as the king. The intrigue is great, the characterizations are fantastic and the plot incredibly engaging. I cannot wait to see what happens next.
The Art: Cabal does great work with the art in the issue. The visuals have a softer tone to them and that works really well in the moments that T’Challa is talking to the agents and others.
