The Rundown: Black Manta and Gallous search for answers to a mysterious happening as two unusual beings make their presence known in the world.
The story opens with a group of kids playing heroes and villains in the park. Soon, it is revealed that one of them has a connection to Black Manta. In Boston Harbor, Black Manta and Gallous have a revealing conversation with Dr. Shin. Gallous and Black Manta then head to someplace unexpected.
Meanwhile, in Themysicra, someone unusual enters their realm from the underworld. They encounter Nubia and is offered shelter. Instead they set off on a journey. In the Hamptons, Black Manta and Gallous search for Craddock. After a deadly confrontation, Black Manta forces Craddock to do something surprising. Finally, a new force emerges and makes his mark on the world.
The Story: This action packed episode is filled with both content and action. Chuck Brown does a great job with juggling three intersecting storylines. I have to say that I was surprising by the Themiscyra content. I would also like to inform the reader that this episode has a brief cross over linking a happening in the newly released comic “Nubia & The Amazons #1.”
I find this series to be full of promise. The reveals in this chapter are thought provoking and I can’t wait to see the impact they have on the DC Universe.
The Art: This issue features detailed drawings and color work that changes with the location and mood of the characters being presented. The action scenes are interesting and the attention to character expression and form make for an engaging and emotionally connective experience.
