The Book of Ruin: Chapter One: Picking Up The Pieces
Official Description – Gambi supports Black Lightning as he departs on a special mission; Grace tries to persuade Anissa to let her guard down.
After an accident, Black Lightning searches for Jennifer in a precarious location. When he brings her back to The Sanctum, she is put in a high tech machine in the hopes of saving her life.
The Pierce family and friends cope with Jennifer’s predicament in different ways. TC feels guilty for Jennifer’s injury and spends as much time as he can by her side. Annisa turns to Grace for support. And Gambi takes on the roles of comforter and mentor as he monitors Jennifer’s condition.
Jeff and Lynn blame each other for their daughter’s situation. After an explosive argument the two are forced to take a look at themselves and their past actions. They must then decide how to move forward. When Jennifer’s condition changes, the group is met with an unexpected turn of events.
Meanwhile, Police Chief Lopez makes plans to take down both the crime syndicates and the metas living in the city. To accomplish her goal, she results to ruthless means. After enlisting Detective Hassan Shakur, she makes a public announcement.
Elsewhere in Freeland, Lala receives a surprise phone call and is offered an unexpected deal. Later, during a confrontation with the police, his secret is revealed to a foe who uses this information to their advantage.
Also, the happening of Tobias Whale are briefly featured. His current plans are in danger of delay. And an associate gives him some helpful advice.
While this episode is low on action, it develops some plot points that will shape the rest of the season. I’m curious about Tobias’s overall agenda. So far, we have only received minor hints. But, as he is the show’s main villain, and this is the shows final season, we can assume he has something major planned.
I am also interested in how Chief Lopez’s actions will affect the city. She brings a menacing feel to the Freeland Police Department. It seems as though her actions may bring her more enemies than she is prepared for. The cliff hanger at the end is intriguing and I can’t for next week’s episode.
