The Rundown: Ms. Moonbeam will step outside her role and forge her own destiny.

In a a world between stories, forgotten characters exist, live and wait for the moment that they will be used again. Ms. Moonbeam is one of those characters. Created to be a villain, she finds herself in a new role in this world. Often she is the first face a newly discarded character sees and she helps them find their way.

When the opportunity comes to return to the world of stories, she jumps at the chance, but the role she’s meant to play is not to her liking and she decides to change her fortunes. When the story requires her to take on Golden Gail, she confronts the hero with a new set of powers that could change her story forever.

The Story: Castelucci delivers an interesting and entertaining story in this issue. Having the story told from Moonbeam’s perspective is a great touch and I enjoyed the progression of the story and the twists that it took. The plot is really creative and very enjoyable and I truly enjoy the environment of the story itself.

The Art: As much as I liked the story in this issue, the art really didn’t connect with me. I understand the aesthetic the artist was going for, but it felt too flat and remedial for me. It’s a style I didn’t enjoy based on the visual potential of the story.
