The Rundown: Essex becomes part of a new investigation that will bring up some dark moments from the recent past.
Pax and Essex find themselves confronted by a creature that they believe was only lore. After finding a way to get it to leave, Essex attempts to track it but it disappears. Pax returns to headquarters and decides to ask for Essex to be reinstated. A move that will bring some unwanted political heat down on them in the wake of a serial killer case.
Essex pays a visit to an old friend and has to deal with her actions after the fire both with her and with one of Pax’s children as she continues her investigation. An investigation that will bring them back to a familiar location.
The Story: Thompson delivers a thrilling, emotional and engaging story in this issue. I continue to return to the world of this story and its characters because they are beautifully complex and compelling. I love the drama of the story and how Essex finds herself dealing with the consequences of her decisions and how those decisions have affected those around her. There are some wonderful character moments throughout this issue and the mystery at the heart of it keeps me intrigued.
The Art: McClaren delivers some beautiful art in the issue. I love the visual style and how the visuals craft an immersive and compelling world.
