The Rundown: Essex and Pax uncover a dark conspiracy beneath the streets of the city.

Everyone manages to escape to the abandoned home of Phinneas III in The Trees and the brief respite gives them time to go into Dagmar’s memories. A journey that will reveal a conspiracy beneath the city and a familiar face at the head of it. As the memory fades, Essex and Pax take a small team to gather the final pieces of the puzzle before confronting their enemy.

After contacting the rest of the black cloaks and getting them into position, Pax and Essex head into the tunnels beneath the city and learn the truth about what is being created down there. As they confront the principals involved, the pair find themselves in the fight of their lives against the creatures that have been stalking them through the city.

The Story: A solid and beautifully engaging way to end this arc. Thompson crafts a thrilling, fun and entertaining story in this issue. All of the plot elements that have building throughout this arc pay off in the finale and the story is filled with intrigue, suspense and great action. I continue to enjoy the world of this story and how it brilliantly blends fantasy, detective noir and sci-fi elements together to create something new and exciting. I cannot wait to return to this world.

The Art: McClaren offers some beautifully detailed and visually stunning art throughout this issue. I love the style of this series and how it blends visual elements to create something completely original and compelling.
