The Rundown: Ma Etta faces a group of infected that act differently than the monsters they usually face. Blink seeks help from outside the family and the team hunting a powerful demon run into trouble.
The Sangerye’s are used to fighting the creatures they call jinoo, but the ones infecting people in Harlem are of a breed that even Ma Etta doesn’t understand. To make matters worse, they don’t seem interested in attacking and the behavior they do exhibit is more disturbing. At the same time, Blink and Enoch travel to Chinatown to enlist some help only to find themselves in the middle of a battle with a rampaging dragon.
The team sent to Georgia to hunt down Adro finds themselves trapped in an abandoned church being surrounded by the minions of the demon. With only an infected Berg and a scared Johnnie-Ray left to help them.
The Story: Walker and Brown ramp up the action in this issue as well as broaden the story in impressive ways. The dialogue is great and the interpersonal conflicts between the family members continue to be a great source of drama. The story is expanding the mysteries surrounding the jinoo and the writer’s have made it engaging enough to want to know where the story will go next. I was really impressed with the ending and its implications on the characters.
The Art: Sanford Greene’s visual style is one of the biggest draws of this series and this issue is no exception. There are some beautifully detailed panels throughout and the characters practically leap from the page.
