The Rundown: The Birds discover where they are as well as why Barbara has been targeted.
The Birds move on to a new alternate world taken from the brain of Barda. As they find themselves in a 1950’s suburb, they also find themselves being helped by a mysterious woman named Cela. A woman who tells the group not only why they’re here, but who brought them there and why.
At the same time, Barbara wakes up in another world entirely and discovers that there is something wrong with reality. Something she might be able to exploit in order to escape. When the team discovers Barda has been infected, they find themselves fighting a friend while Dinah seeks help from Clea. Help that will reveal the villain behind their captivity and Barbara’s connection to it all.
The Story: Thompson crafts a fun and entertaining story in this issue. The arc continues to be more interesting as Thompson reveals more layers and complications for the characters. There is a great buildup of suspense throughout the story and the interpersonal conflicts lead to some great reveals for both the world and the conflict within it. I continue to be invested in this story and its characters and cannot wait to see what happens next.
The Art: Rodriguez and Guiday deliver some beautifully detailed art throughout the issue. I really enjoyed how the visual styles complemented each other and how those styles created wonderful visual moment for the characters.
