According to The Hollywood Reporter, actor Billy Dee Williams will be returning to the big screen as Lando Calrissian in the upcoming Star Wars Episode IX.
Recently, the star bowed out of an appearance at an upcoming convention due to a conflict with a movie schedule. This fueled speculation that Williams will be returning with production on the next Star Wars film slated to begin later this summer. Sources confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that the actor would indeed be returning as Lando Calrissian in the new film written and directed by JJ Abrams.
Williams has embraced the character in various media including cartoons and video games and the character of Lando got a huge boost in popularity this summer in Solo: A Star Wars Story when Donald Glover slipped on the cape and played the rogue.
Star Wars Episode IX reunites Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Kelly Marie Tran, Domhnall Gleeson as well as new cast member Keri Russell. It is expected to be released December 20, 2019.
