Billie Piper’s Rose Tyler is one of the most popular and well regarded characters in the Doctor Who universe and Piper will be bringing the character back for a new, original audio series.
The series, titled Rose Tyler: The Dimension Cannon, will focus on Rose’s adventures in the two years she went missing between the finale “Doomsday” and her return in the episode “The Stolen Earth?”. According to RadioTimes, Big Finish studio is producing the four part series that is “Rose’s journey through dying parallel worlds”. According to Piper, “I love how normal Rose is, and yet really extraordinary,” she said. “She lived a normal average life but she is incredibly curious and has an enormous capacity for love and empathy and is really spirited. She is extraordinary.”
Producer David Richardson said, “I approached Russell T Davies (former Doctor Who showrunner) with the idea of Big Finish making a Rose Tyler spin-off. He was very enthusiastic – as always – and suggested we followed Rose’s journey that ultimately leads to her finding the Doctor in The Stolen Earth.”
Tyler will not be alone in her adventures. Camille Coduri and Shaun Dingwall will reprise their roles as Rose’s mom Jackie and her dad Pete. Another Who alum will join the series with Mark Benton returning as alien investigator Clive Finch.
Rose Tyler: The Dimension Cannon will be available September 2019.
