The Rundown: Helgi and company find themselves being chased by trolls and in the company of some unusual potential allies.
After coming upon a slaughter of the creatures who took the eye, Helgi, Stigr and Kadlin find themselves in the fight of their lives against a band of rampaging trolls. After Kadlin is injured, Helgi finds himself with a choice of either helping her or giving into the influence of the axe and going after the trolls.
The group finds themselves overwhelmed and get a lucky assist from a group of Earthen Smiths when they wander into their territory. After bringing the group back to their village, Stigr learns quickly how dangerous the axe Helgi is carrying is before the young prince decides to set out on his own to retrieve the eye.
The Story: Wagener crafts an entertaining story in this issue complete with great action and character development. I like seeing Stigr as the wise mentor and how he watches over Helgi. There are even some great moments where he sees the developing feelings the young prince has for Kadlin. The story has some great tension within as well and the conflict Helgi deals with in regards to the curse and the axe make me interested in what happens to him next.
The Art: Odland delivers some beautifully detailed and unique art in the issue. The characters designs are striking and the action is visually thrilling.
