The Rundown: Batman and Bigby find themselves facing a foe they are not ready for.

Batman and Bigby finally catch up to Bookworm in the middle of his big plan. Unfortunately, both heroes will discover that the thief is not your average villain. Something Bookworm proves when he recites an incantation that stops Bigby Wolf in his tracks. In the aftermath, the Robins work tirelessly to revive Batman, but time is running out.

Days later, Bruce enlists Bigby to get some things from the cave that he needs to get back into the fight. He also learns the truth about the book and the power it holds. At the same time, a secret is revealed about Bookworm. A secret linked to both the power of the book and the world of Bigby Wolf. When Batman and Bigby find themselves at Bookworm’s lair, they will discover that the secrets the villain is holding onto might not be his own.

The Story: Five issues in and I am convinced that Bill Willingham does not like the character of Batman in the slightest. Which is a shame since he put the character front and center of this story. It’s like he’s purposely making Batman the dumbest, most insufferable version of himself for no conceivable reason. The plot is interesting, but the characterization brings the experience down. Dumb decision making and goofy dialogue make the story oftentimes unbearable to read through making even the revelations within the story lackluster.

The Art: Level does good work with the art in the issue. The characters look good and the visuals are striking.
