The Rundown: A series of killings in Gotham will bring Batman face to face with an unknown world.
An informant gives Robin some info on a potential crime scene and Batman moves in to investigate before the police arrive. After finding multiple bodies on the scene that seem to have been attacked by a giant wolf, he and his allies secure the scene while Batman heads off to see the commissioner. None of them suspect that they are being watched by Bigby Wolf who is waiting in the shadows.
After meeting with Gordon and a new transfer to the GCPD named Molly, Batman tells them what he knows while requesting information from the other crime scenes. At the same time, a mysterious crime syndicate is hunting for a book that its leader is willing to kill to get a hold of while he hides secrets of his own from his men. As Bigby watches things unfold from the shadows, he finds himself face to face with the Dark Knight himself.
The Story: Willingham crafts an interesting first issue with this story. The world of Fables has always been one of my favorites for both its premise and connection to literature and it will be interesting to see how these characters interact with the world of Batman. There are enough moments throughout that tease a bigger, more interesting story to come and I am intrigued in what direction the story will take after its action packed cliffhanger.
The Art: Brian Level delivers some impressive visuals. I like the style and how exaggerates the mannerisms and physicality of the characters.
