The Rundown: Batman has a final showdown with Equilibrium.
Batman narrates as Equilibrium orchestrates a prison break. Then, on a flight, Batman and his friends speak with an international network of allies to gain information on their foe. Next, Batman, Squire, and Ducard arrive at the castle of Beryl Hutchinson and make preparations. After receiving alarming intel, the group set out to confront Equilibrium and her allies. Soon, Batman and his friends face a surprising situation and must use an unusual tactic against their enemies. Finally, Batman makes a decision that affects the life of a new friend.
The Story: The final chapter of this series nicely wraps up this tale and ends in a tragic, yet heartwarming manner. Taylor does an excellent job of portraying an older, battle worn Batman that must face the consequences of his often heroic actions. The juxtaposition between Batman and Equilibrium is a fascinating study. Just as in real life, tragedy affects people in different ways. And I enjoyed seeing how the two used their training in different extremes. I’m sad this plotline has come to an end. I hope that at some point, there will be another adventure with this iteration of the Dark Knight.
The Art: The illustrations in this chapter are highly detailed and formatted in a traditional art style. The action scenes are interesting, and the attention to detail is stunning. The character expressions are emotionally engaging and really make you feel a part of the story.
