The Rundown: Four new stories take the Dark Knight and his allies on new adventures.
Batman: The Winning Card Part 1
It’s Batman’s first year in Gotham and as he patrols the night taking down a killer while trying to balance his double life, the police and one little girl discover something truly monstrous in the city. Someone making a name for himself with a card and a laugh. Someone who is just getting started.
A dark and terrifying first chapter from King. The story has a fantastic build up that is enhanced with beautifully dark and disturbing art from Gerads. I was instantly hooked.
Stormwatch: Down with the Kings Part 1
Director Bones has a new Stormwatch team and they are tasked with bringing in a dangerous criminal who uses the speed force to destroy. Utilizing a new and dangerous team of ex-criminals and killers, Stormwatch goes on the attack, but their tactics could make them a liability to the person pulling their strings.
A strong, solid opening for this new and interesting team. I like the mystery and intrigue of the story and the art is vibrant and visually engaging.
Superman: Order of the Black Lamp Part 1
The Daily Planet is in need of some new stories. Something Lois is adamant about when she enlists Clark to break some interesting news. When a package arrives for him with a memory from his childhood, Clark finds himself at the beginning of a mystery that only Superman can solve.
An entertaining and engaging mystery from the start. Tying the story to Clark’s childhood and a hero he admired is a great touch and I look forward to seeing where this story goes.
Heroes of Tomorrow
A new Dark Knight in an even darker Gotham stalks the streets looking to help. When he finds two boys being hunted by Royal Flush sentries, he leaps into action to defend them and finds himself facing his arch enemy, Joker.
Dan Mora writes and illustrates a beautiful, bold and entertaining story with a take on the Dark Knight that absolutely got my attention.
