The Rundown: Barbara finds herself being used to swing the election to the city’s corrupt former mayor.
Barbara wakes up after discovering the former mayor has been working with the Mad Hatter. Upon discovering the secret of how he has been able to turn public opinion in his favor, she is chosen to be the next part of the former mayor’s plan to retake the city. A plan that will send the current mayor scrambling to get an endorsement from Bruce Wayne. After Batman discovers what the Hatter did at Arkham to secure his release, he learns how Barbara is being used Mayfield and he, Robin and Nightwing go out looking for her.
With the evidence starting to mount and Gothamites heading for the polls, Mayfield decides to take Hatter back to Arkham in order to enlist the inmates to take Batman out of the picture. While Nightwing battles to save Barbara, Batman and Robin face down the inmates of the asylum while everyone awaits the results of the election.
The Story: Burnett and Dini do a brilliant job of bringing this arc to a satisfying and fun conclusion. I love the plotting and pace of this issue a lot and the characters are spot on and engaging. There are some really fun and interesting moments throughout the issue and everything comes together beautifully to a conclusion that was both unexpected and delightfully funny.
The Art: Burchett delivers some great art in the issue. The visuals are fun and entertaining and the tone of the series comes through in every panel.
